as far as I know the difference is due to the fact, that only the european version without catalytic converter has 105PS. American versions have always been delivered with catalytic converter.
I've upgraded my spider some years ago and horsepower changed from 105 to 103 (at least in the vehicle registration certificate ;-) ).
At the end its unobservable.
